Brief description. One of the oldest wooden houses in Vologda. It was built in the style of late classicism.
Condition: good.
Contemporary use: the center of folk arts and crafts "A Carved Palisade".
HISTORY
Originally the house was used as a dwelling house. After restoration it housed various institutions, including a children's art school. In the summer of 2011 in the building the Center of folk arts and crafts "A Carved Palisade" was opened, the main task of which is to preserve the existing folk crafts and to revive the lost ones. On the first floor there is a handicraft store, on the second - rooms for workshops and seminars.
Architectural description
The house is built in the classic style. Its main single storey structure, heightened by mezzanines, is covered with a gambrel roof. From the east it adjoins an extension with an entrance, completed with a pediment, in which there is a semi-circular window in the tympanum. The décor of the facade is distinct in severity and simplicity. The building is crowned with a large overhanging cornice, beautified with dentals. The corners are decorated with lesenes. The windows of the ground floor are enclosed in outside architraves, completed with panelled head moldings on profiled brackets. On the ground floor of the house, there were gala halls and living rooms welded into enfilade. On the second floor (to which a staircase with railing of balusters leads) there were servants’ rooms.
LOSS, RECONSTRUCTION, RESTORATION
In the late 1970s - early 1980s the house was restored . At the end of the first decade of the 21st century it was again repaired and restored. As a result, the design of the main entrance has changed: a canopy on the curved pillars and a balcony, fenced with a balustrade, were built over it.
